Quick answer: Open the individual X post containing the video, choose Share, copy the link to the post, and paste that URL into VidKite Pro. Select the best available quality and a local folder, then wait for the completed file. Download only public media you own or have permission to save.
X videos appear inside posts, replies, quote posts, and conversations. The reliable input is the permanent URL of the specific post containing the media. A profile page, Home timeline, search results page, or copied text without the post URL is not enough.
Copy the correct X video link
- Open the post in its detail view.
- Confirm the video plays normally.
- Select the Share icon.
- Choose Copy link to Post.
- Check that the copied address resembles `https://x.com/account/status/123...`.
X provides the same Copy link to Post workflow in its official help documentation. See How to share a post on X and How to find a post URL.
Older `twitter.com/.../status/...` links can often redirect to X and still work, but the final `x.com` post URL is preferable when troubleshooting.
Step-by-step: save the video on a computer
- Open VidKite Pro on Windows or Mac.
- Paste the individual X post URL into the link box.
- For several authorized posts, place one URL on each line.
- Choose a destination folder that exists and has enough free space.
- Select the best available quality unless you specifically need a smaller file.
- Enable iPhone-compatible output only if the video will be imported into Apple Photos.
- Start the task and wait for downloading, audio merging, and any compatibility processing to finish.
- Play the completed file and check both picture and sound.
The X/Twitter video downloader page gives a product overview. The detailed X video guide covers the supported desktop workflow.
Public posts and protected posts
X distinguishes between public and protected posts. Public posts can be viewed by anyone, while protected posts are intended only for approved followers. X also states that permanent links to protected posts are visible only to those followers. See X guidance on public and protected posts.
Use a private browser window as a quick check:
- If the post and video load while signed out, the link is public.
- If X asks for an account, shows an unavailable post, or hides the media, the post is restricted.
- If the account was recently changed from public to protected, old search results do not make the post public.
- If the post was deleted or the account suspended, the media may no longer be available.
Do not try to bypass a protected account. If it is your own post, use your own original file or account archive. If another creator owns it, ask for permission and a copy.
What quality will be downloaded?
VidKite can save only the media rendition X currently exposes for that post. The largest dimensions are not guaranteed to match the creator's original camera file because platforms can resize and compress uploads.
Choose the highest available option when you need an editing copy. Choose a smaller rendition when fast transfer or storage matters more. Upscaling a small source to 1080p does not restore missing detail.
Some posts contain a looping animated GIF. X commonly handles these as video media, so the result may be an MP4 rather than a `.gif` file. This is useful for playback efficiency but means the saved file type may differ from the label shown in the post.
Why a video can have no sound
There are three common explanations:
- The original post is a silent clip or animated GIF.
- The highest-quality picture and audio are separate and still need merging.
- A temporary or partial file was opened before the task finished.
Wait for the final completed status. Test the post in X to confirm that it actually has sound. Do not close the app during the processing stage.
Send X links from a phone
When VidKite is running on a home or office computer, Telegram or Feishu can send an X post URL to that computer remotely. The downloaded file is saved to the same destination used by the main app.
For phone access, select a cloud-synced folder such as iCloud Drive, OneDrive, or Google Drive. Wait for syncing to finish before opening the file on the phone. The complete workflow is explained in How to download videos to your phone with cloud storage.
Troubleshooting X/Twitter video links
The post opens but VidKite finds no video
Confirm the video belongs to that exact post. In a quote post or conversation, the visible video may belong to an earlier embedded post. Open the media's original post and copy its URL.
The link begins with `t.co`
Open the short link in a browser, wait for the redirect, and copy the final `x.com/.../status/...` address.
The post works only while signed in
Treat it as restricted. Public-link downloading is not a way to bypass protected posts, age gates, region controls, or account permissions.
The task fails after a platform update
Install the current VidKite version from the official download page and retry a known-public post. Platform page structures and media delivery can change.
The video will not save to iPhone Photos
Use the iPhone-compatible option or create an MP4 with H.264 video and AAC audio. If Files can play it but Photos rejects it, follow the iPhone video bitrate compatibility guide.
Common questions
Can VidKite download videos from both x.com and twitter.com links?
Specific post links from both domains can be tried, but using the final `x.com` URL reduces unnecessary redirects.
Can it download a whole X profile?
The normal workflow uses specific post URLs. Batch only the individual posts you are authorized to save rather than submitting a profile page.
Can it download protected X posts?
Not as public media. Follow the account owner's privacy choice and use an authorized original copy instead.
Does it remove text or logos inside the video?
No. Creator-added logos, captions, borders, and graphics already encoded into the picture remain part of the result.
Why is an X GIF saved as MP4?
X may deliver animated media as a video stream. MP4 is therefore a normal result and usually plays more efficiently than a traditional GIF.
Save and reuse only media you own, have permission to download, or are otherwise legally authorized to use. Availability can change when a post is deleted, protected, restricted, or modified.
