What quality should you expect?
VidKite can preserve only the quality Instagram makes available for that Reel. It cannot restore detail removed during the original upload or Instagram's processing.

For most vertical Reels, expect a 9:16-oriented file. If you plan to edit the result, avoid immediately converting it to a smaller resolution. Keep the first downloaded version as your working source and create separate delivery copies later.
Public, private, and login-restricted Reels
Use this simple test: open a private browser window where you are not signed in and try the Reel URL.
- If it plays, it is generally accessible as public content.
- If Instagram asks you to sign in, shows an unavailable message, or redirects to a profile, the downloader may not receive the media.
- If the creator has a private account, your ability to view the Reel in your own app does not make it public or transferable.
- Deleted, region-restricted, age-restricted, or rights-managed audio can also change availability.

- Confirm that the task reached its final completed state.
- Retry with the current app version.
- Test another public Reel to see whether the issue is specific to licensed audio.
- Do not assume that changing the extension will add a missing audio track.
Save Reels to a cloud folder or iPhone
You can select an iCloud Drive, OneDrive, or Google Drive desktop folder as the VidKite destination. Wait for the cloud client to finish uploading before opening the file on your phone.

Troubleshooting an Instagram Reel link
The link does nothing
Paste the URL into a plain text field and confirm it begins with `https://www.instagram.com/reel/` or another specific Instagram media path. Remove unrelated text copied from a message.
Instagram returns an empty media response
Open the link while signed out. If it is unavailable there, access is restricted. If it plays publicly, update VidKite and retry without browser login information first; a stale or incompatible login session can be less reliable than public access.
The filename will not sync to cloud storage
Use the current VidKite release. It cleans characters such as `V:*?"<>|` and emoji that can cause problems across Windows, macOS, and some cloud providers.
The quality looks lower than the Reel in the app
Instagram can adapt playback to the device and network. Compare the actual pixel dimensions of the downloaded file, not only its appearance in a small player window. Source availability sets the upper limit.

Can I download a private Instagram Reel?
Not as public media. If it is your own content, use Instagram's account tools or an authorized copy you control. Do not bypass another person's privacy settings.
